PCM-Strata Backup How to

Getting Started

When running PCM-Strata Backup for the first time, you will be asked to create the company.

Create Company

Type the name of the company and click Create Company.

Creating the Job

Before programming the backup, you will need to create the job and schedule.

Details needed are:

  • Job Name
  • Time to Run
  • Schedule

After making those selections, click Save.  If successful, you will be alerted that it’s been saved.

Programming Database Backups

First, you need to set the Server Name and Instance (typically sqlexpress).  If you plan to Use Windows Authentication, you do not need to enter Username/Password.

Databases:

By default, All user DB is selected.  This means that all databases, except system databases will be included in the backup.

User + System DB means that all databases will be included in the backup.

If you uncheck All user DB, a list of databases will appear.  When this list is populated, you can make selections on which database you wish to include in the backup.

Options:

DOW: This option will append the Day of Week at the end of the backup name.

Compress: Determine whether to compress the database.

Destination: Location of backups.

Run before: Command to run before running the backup.

Run after: Command to run after running the backup.

When selections have been made, click Apply.

SQL Databases

Programming File Backups

Programming file backups require a source and a destination.

Click the Browse button to open a folder explorer.  Select a folder, then click the plus (+) to add the selection to the backup list.

To set the destination, click the Browse button next to the Destination text box.

Options:

Exclude (masks): Set the mask of files or types to ignore.

Exclude Folders: The backup will disregard these folders when running.

Multi-Thread: Select if the backup has multi-threading. Then, set the multi-thread count.

Compress: Determine whether to compress the file backup.

DOW: Select if the backup should be divided into Day of Week folders.

Run before: Command to run before running the backup.

Run after: Command to run after running the backup.

When selections have been made, click Apply.

File Backup

Programming Volume Backups

In the Volume Backup screen, a list of available volumes is loaded into the list.  Select one at a time and click the move button to move them to the right box to be included in the backup.

If a volume is in the right box that you do not need backed up, you can select it and click the X button to remove it.

Browse to select a target for the backup.

Options:

Exclude Folders: Add list of folders to be excluded from the volume backup.

All Critical: Includes all critical drives to the backup.

DOW: Determine whether to add a folder for Day of Week to the backup.

Run before: Command to run before running the backup.

Run after: Command to run after running the backup.

When selections have been made, click Apply.

Scheduling a Backup Job

After creating each backup section and you are ready to schedule, click on the Schedule button.

Opening Existing Job

Open PCM-Strata. Select a job from the list and click Go To Job.

All job details will be loaded into the next screen.
